Chamberlin School has joined numerous schools across the state in using the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBiS) system. The goal of PBiS is to implement a proactive, school wide, systems approach to improving social and academic competence for all students. Students at Chamberlin have spent the beginning of the year learning the “Three Be’s” for our school-wide expectations: Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe. Staff members specifically teach what it looks like and sounds like in each area of the school if students are following expectations. Students who are “caught” following the expectations earn a Bee Buck. In the classrooms, teachers and students cash in their Bee Bucks for honey cells. For every ten Bee Bucks, a class earns a honey cell! During our school wide assemblies, the honey cells are added to our new school beehive. For one of our school wide celebrations, we had a JAM (Jump and Move) to celebrate the filling of our beehive with honey cells! Students and staff participated in outdoor time together, with a variety of movement activities: parachute games, hula hoops, jump ropes, sack races, an outdoor track, and dancing and playing on our playground structure. We look forward to many more community building, school wide events, as we work together to create a positive school culture. For more information on PBiS, visit http://pbisvermont.org
